Grainne began her dental career in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital where she received a Certificate in Dental Nursing in 1999. Afterwards she continued to work in the DDSH as a Dental Nurse and during this time became particularly interested in the preventive aspects of Dentistry. Grainne decided to pursue these interests and returned to study in Trinity College graduating with a Diploma with Distinction in Dental Hygiene in 2003 as well as receiving the Dental Council award for first place in her class and an award for her work in community oral health.  Since graduating she has been actively involved in professional associations, has organised continuing education conferences, given many lectures and presentations to raise awareness of oral health and has been an elected Treasurer and Secretary of the Irish Dental Hygienists’ Association.

Grainne joined our Dental Hygiene team in 2003 and now works full-time in our clinic on Burlington Road.

Gemma Ryan R.D.H.

Gemma trained as a Dental nurse in Trinity College, Dublin, completing her course successfully in 2005.  During her mandatory 5-week practical work placement we were lucky that Dublin Dental Hospital had choosen to send Gemma to us. Gemma fitted in with the team in Burlington Road very well and we were highly impressed by the quality of her work that we were happy to have her join Burlington Road permanently when she finished her course,  working with Dr Edward O’Reilly for two years after that . During her initial time here Gemma took a keen interest in preventative dentistry and a more patient based approach so commenced her two year diploma in Dental Hygiene at University College Cork,  where she graduated with Honours.

Following completion of her course in 2009, she re-joined our team as a Registered Dental Hygienist and we were again very happy to welcome her back.

Patricia Kelly R.D.H.

Trish initially trained as a Dental Nurse and worked full time here in Burlington Road with Dr Aidan O’Reilly & Dr Gearoid McKenna from 1986-1989.

In 1990, Trish moved to Bristol to study for her Dental Hygiene qualification, as at that time, Ireland had no training facility for Dental Hygienists.  Returning to Ireland she worked in an Orthodontic practice for six months before returning to Burlington Road to work part-time, while also working in general & specialist practices. Trish was the first Dental Hygienist to work in the new dental unit at Our Ladys Hospital For Sick Children Crumlin in from 1991 to 1997.

The development of a national association for her profession engaged Trish greatly, so over nine years she took on various roles within the Irish Dental Hygienists’ Association.  She was the first Dental Hygienist to sit on the Auxiliary Workers Committee of the Dental Council representing her colleagues and profession.

Continuing education is very important to Trish and she takes every opportunity to attend lectures and seminars to keep her up to date and improve her skills levels.

Trish currently works part-time at Burlington Road.
